As there is a focus here on QOTO on STEM, but also a focus on Free Software. I think it would be a good idea to provide some information on what Free software means, as it is important to differentiate this from Open Source (which has many definitions)
When we think of free software we usually think of this as it is defined by the Free Software foundation .
In essence Free software gives you 4 freedoms when it comes to what you can do, with software. Details of this are at .
The two sites at  &  are closely linked. The Free Software Foundation Europe  appears to be a separate entity but with similar goals to promote software freedom.
Much of the software that runs the Fediverse is built on free software without which we may not have the internet as we know it today. It is important to respect these freedoms and ensure future generations can benefit from software freedom.
